Can a sailor become an officer in Indian Army?
Indian Navy provides opportunity to sailors to become a commissioned officer. These are commissioned worthy i.e. CW scheme and very rare SD scheme (Special Duties). Earlier SW scheme is known as the Upper Yardmen Scheme in which the candidates from lower deck will be selected to become officers.
You can’t join as officer in Indian Navy after just completing 10th. You have to study and complete 12th class with pcm. (with good percentage). Then you can give NDA examination conducted twice (April and September).

Can we do navy after 10th?
Indian Navy has the option of joining as a Sailor for both class 10 and 12 pass students.
Candidates have to clear minimum eligibility of passing 10+2 level and should be in the age of 17-20 years. Senior Secondary Recruitment (SSR) for the Indian Navy is conducted twice a year. After clearing the SSB, candidates have to go through a training of one year in order to join Indian Navy as Sailor.
After qualifying SSB these candidates undergo medical examination and if found fit, are inducted in the Indian Navy on the basis of All India Merit. The training of officers selected through this entry normally commences in the month of Jan/Jul every year.
