Does laminar flow have turbulence?

Does laminar flow have turbulence?

In laminar flow, the motion of the particles of the fluid is very orderly with all particles moving in straight lines parallel to the pipe walls. Flows at Reynolds numbers larger than 4000 are typically (but not necessarily) turbulent, while those at low Reynolds numbers below 2300 usually remain laminar.

Can ideal flow be turbulent?

Turbulent flow is not characteristic of an ideal fluid flow. I am assuming that by ideal fluid you mean inviscid fluid. For a flow to be called turbulent, as distinct from a complicated laminar flow, it must possess a few characteristics (see A first course in turbulence by Tennekes and Lumley, chapter 1).

Is inviscid flow steady?

An example of steady flow is flow of a fluid through a pipe at a constant rate. If the flow rate is varied, say by opening or closing a valve, then the flow becomes unsteady. A flow is said to be inviscid if the effects of viscosity are absent.

Can you have turbulence without viscosity?

Also known as vortex stretching. This phenomenon will not happen if there is no viscosity in the fluid. If you can achieve vortex stretching by some mechanism then you can have the cascading effect of turbulence.

How do you know if flow is turbulent?

For practical purposes, if the Reynolds number is less than 2000, the flow is laminar. If it is greater than 3500, the flow is turbulent. Flows with Reynolds numbers between 2000 and 3500 are sometimes referred to as transitional flows.

Is flow in aorta turbulent?

In others, the turbulence dissipated more proximally. The results of this study indicate that turbulent flow can occur in the ascending aorta of subjects with normal cardiac function; and it occurs consistently in the ascending aorta of individuals with abnormal aortic valves.

Is Inviscid ideal gas?

, Physics enthusiast. Not necessarily. Ideal gases and ideal fluids are ways of modelling gases and fluids to characterise their behaviour easily. An Ideal fluid is incompressible, cannot generate vorticity ( i.e it is irrotational) and is inviscid ( i.e. zero viscosity).
