Why did the British and French fight?
The French and Indian War was part of a worldwide nine years’ war that took place between 1754 and 1763. It was fought between France and Great Britain to determine control of the vast colonial territory of North America.
What is the difference between British and French personality traits?
British people are generally more quiet (although not at the pub) and considerate in nature. They get emotional less quickly in their relationships, decision making and debating (although the result of the Brexit vote suggests not all is necessarily what it seems on the surface), less rash, than French people can be.
What is the relationship between France and the UK like?
Despite the historical wars of CENTURIES ago, we have been through so much together, especially during the World Wars. We have worked together since then, the Channel Tunnel being an example. Many French citizens work in Great Britain and many Brits visit or settle as expats in France.
How common is the French language in the UK?
Indeed, almost a quarter of the British population can speak/understand French – and I suspect that a good deal more than that can muddle their way through the basics if they have to. It is by far the most commonly spoken non-English language in the British Isles, far ahead of native languages like Welsh and Scots.
What do you like about living in France?
I think the country is beautiful and incredibly varied. You can ski, enjoy rolling hills, freeze in the Atlantic or bask in the Med. You can climb mountains and sand dunes. Its all there. I love how the French dont seem to mind about things the British would get upset about. I had a holiday let on a busy junction in Old Town Nice.
