Could we build modern battleships?
Yes, the US could build a modern battleship with modern technology. The main obstacle to build a modern battleship would be it’s hull casting as they were constructed by welding rolled steel that were hundreds of feet long.
Why do we not build battleships anymore?
They are not suited to the objectives navies want to achieve and they are incredibly expensive. A battleship’s guns have very limited accurate range of around 20,000 yds, modern anti-ship missiles have ranges of tens or hundreds of miles and can be carried by ships, aircraft or fired from land.

Long gone are the days where the United States Navy roamed the seas with heavily-armed battleships as its primary capital ships.
