Google’s preferred desktop OS for its employees is Mac, and not Windows, Linux or even its own Chrome OS. Google has reportedly updated 99.5 percent of its Mac fleet from OS X 10.7 to 10.8 in eight weeks. It also plans a move to OS X 10.9 Mavericks soon.
Why does everyone at Google use Mac?
Google’s OS of choice, is Apple’s Mac OS X platform, with the company imposing Mac use to all its employees. The company supports most operating systems, including Windows, Linux and its own Chrome OS. I think this is in part to Macs being more secure, and its user base is nowhere near the size of Windows’ user base.

OSX is also the only platform that allows development of iOS applications (for iPhone and iPad). Anyway that’s my guess as to why there are so many people using Macs at Google.

This was for laptops, which is the standard computer that Google (and most companies) use. Developers still use mostly Linux workstations, of course.
If the deals had some Apple stock as a part of the acquisition, Google Ventures would then own Apple shares. Although Apple is not known to invest in startups, their may be a few strategic startups that may have attracted Apple investments. Google, who is very acquisitive, may have acquired an Apple-funded startup.
