My personal experience is that I never faced such issue of people in Karnataka not speaking Hindi. Though their mother tounge is mainly Kannada and Tulu in south west part of Karnataka. Yes, you can find some rural areas where people don’t know hindi. But in most of the areas people can speak Hindi.
