Does Safeway know if you steal?

Safeway employees in most store locations are held to very strict rules when it comes to apprehending shoplifters. For example, Safeway cashiers are not allowed to approach a suspected shoplifter. Instead, they are asked to report their suspicion to a supervisor or manager, who will then monitor the situation.

Do grocery stores know when you steal?

As I mentioned, security scanners are not common in grocery stores. So, unfortunately, that means there isn’t always an easy or quick way to know if something was stolen. Every item is accounted for during inventory. Grocery stores know that they can’t prevent every theft, but they can count their losses.

What is code 200 at Safeway?

Safeway is not allowed to disclose the information for most of its codes. However, stores such as Walmart call “Code 100” or “Code 200” over the intercom when they are apprehending a shoplifter. Therefore, it’s likely that Safeway also uses codes 100 or 200 to alert staff to a possible shoplifter.

Yes. Your current Safeway for U™ offers will apply when you shop online, provided the account you used to register for your online grocery account is the same as or linked to your Safeway for U™ account that you use for in-store purchases. Safeway for U™ savings will be reflected on your final receipt at the time of delivery or pickup.

For most the major chain stores (Albertsons, Safeway, Fred Meyer/Kroegers, etc) there are cameras and they are recording you.
