How do you ask someone to read your book?
Reach out to your readers and see who would be willing to read part or all of your book. Offer up bits of it to get people interested. Make sure you are willing to put your book out there, but also make sure you are sending it to the right people who will give you the feedback you are looking for.
Who should read your manuscript?
A beta reader is a person who reads your manuscript before it’s published and provides you with feedback on your story. The feedback is usually on characters, plot, and settings. (Although you may get comments on copyediting and proofreading, too.)

You need more than one beta reader. There’s no set number, but three to five is a good start. If you’re bootstrapping your book, find even more betas: good beta readers can mean forgoing the cost of a developmental editor. You might send your first beta reader draft to two or three people.
How do you ask someone to work for something?
Explain the reason for the request. Give a deadline when possible. Give dates clearly. Make your request polite by starting it with Do you think you could …? or I would be grateful if you/we/I could … .
Why don’t my friends read my work?
Most of your friends probably hope you won’t ask them to read your work. Especially if it’s your first piece. They worry that your “baby” will be ugly. They are afraid of hurting your feelings. Or expect they will have to lie to your face. But you need readers to help you polish your work.

Reading out loud also helps with pacing. For example, when you’re detailing an action scene, is your sentence structure snappy and quick (i.e. short)?
