Kyle Simpson’s You Don’t Know JS series is great—but it is not for beginners. Closure involves functions returning functions. Starting out with scope, you need a general grasp of global vs. local, but nothing too nuanced. As a neophyte, you would be down the rabbit hole without a grappling hook on that stuff.
