The actor’s interpretation of a role—the art of acting—pertains to the role played, whether based on a real person or fictional character. This can also be considered an “actor’s role,” which was called this due to scrolls being used in the theaters.
Do actors personalities change?
It is often said that great actors lose themselves in their roles, and now a brain activity study shows that is more than just a turn of phrase. While portraying a character, actors experience decreased activity in brain regions that help form a sense of self.

There are different schools of thought on acting and emotion. Her research proved that, although actors (even method actors) don’t experience the same emotions as their characters, they do undergo heightened emotions – largely as a result of being on stage in front of an audience with a job to do.

Actors tend to be predominantly artistic individuals, meaning that they are creative and original and work well in a setting that allows for self-expression. They also tend to be enterprising, which means that they are usually quite natural leaders who thrive at influencing and persuading others.

Try to criticize but make sure you are realistic and not overly critical. When trying to convey an emotion try to make yourself believe that you are the character. Try to build up their fears, their feelings and immerse yourself in the story. It may seem slightly obsessive but most actors use this technique.

To do this, first the actors have to figure out what the character wants—the goals and objectives that must be achieved within the context of the play, or movie, or 30-minute sitcom. Often a script is only the bare bones of the character’s objectives—just the lines the character will say, and the lines that others will say in response.

Do actors just memorize lines?
It’s not just memorizing lines, although the techniques uncovered in the Noices’ research speaks to the actor’s task. Actors are in charge of creating a character from the words on a page (I am leaving out improvisational techniques for now…in a later post I will discuss differences between scripted and unscripted acting).
