What does Buddhism say about sleep?
The precepts are commitments to abstain from killing living beings, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and intoxication. With the ninth precept, Buddhists refrain from lying in a high or luxurious sleeping place. Monks take that a step further and aim to sleep upright to reduce the need for sleep.
What does it mean when you meditate and fall asleep?
In any case, if you fall asleep, don’t be alarmed – your body’s response to meditation is usually a reflection of the thoughts, emotions and sensations that linger deep within. Falling asleep is not a sign of failure, it’s a sign that you are a relaxed (and possibly exhausted) meditator.

Do monks sleep while meditating?
It’s very hard for me to knowingly sleep sitting upright but I can fall asleep while Meditating Sitting. Now Imagine doing 4–6 or 8 hours of Meditation, during the day, which Monks do. Of course, there will be very little need for Sleep in the Night for the Monks. So, it’s normal for them to sleep like 4 hours only. Let’s say from 11 PM to 3 AM.
Is it true that only a few Buddhists meditate?
