Today, teachers live in an age of accountability. They are constantly being held responsible for the performance of their students. “The No Child Left Behind Act holds schools and school districts accountable for results. Schools are responsible for making sure your child is learning” (ed.gov).
Can a teacher fail a course if they don’t meet expectations?
If s/he cannot, s/he can withdraw from the course, not flunk. Or perhaps s/he needs a prerequisite course, or s/he should have been screened out in the first place. If s/he can measure up to expectations but doesn’t do so, then it is the teacher who has failed.
