Why are tarantulas so friendly?
Tarantulas are sometimes very docile. They just have no preparation for being on the defensive. Unlike prey animals it may take a lot to get them to do anything. An Avicularia metallica that is still about half grown just huddles down in my hand if I have to take it out of its cage to clean things up.
