Ulysses Klaue was an international criminal and underground black-market arms dealer. Despite being rescued by Killmonger, Klaue was still ultimately betrayed and murdered by Killmonger as a way for him to enter Wakanda and challenge T’Challa for the throne.

Why did they kill off Klaue?

Narrative necessity. Erik killing Klaue allowed him to gain entrance to Wakanda as well as early supporters who already hated Klaue and wanted him dead. T’Challa had to strike a fatal blow in order to stop Erik, mainly because if he didn’t, Erik would just continue his mission, and shouldn’t walk away unpunished.
