Why do light switches make a clicking sound?
The switches could be defective or worn out or the wires at the switch connections could be loose, causing arcing that is making the noises. There is probably nothing wrong with your basic wiring. Switches that make arcing noises can overheat, a definite fire hazard.
Why do switches make noise?
A switch may buzz simply because the screw terminals connecting the circuit wires to the body of the switch are loose. The sound you hear is an audible signal that the electrical current is jumping a gap across metal connections that aren’t in firm contact.
What happens when you flick a switch?
When you flip the toggle lever to the OFF position, the gateway opens up, interrupting the flow of power to the light fixture. There are different designs used for the inner gateway on switches.
Why does my light make a noise when I turn it on?
Whether it’s coming from incandescents, fluorescents, or LEDs, the problem usually stems from vibration caused by the voltage applied. The vibration itself isn’t always the fault of the bulb either, other devices on the same electrical line can lead to noisy lines or noisy light bulbs too.
What does it mean if a light switch sparks?
The light switch contacts are worn out – A sparking light switch results if one of the contacts in the light switch are simply worn out. This can happen due to age and the amount of wear and tear the light switch experienced as a result of repeated use. In this case, you’ll just need to have the light switch replaced.

With other kinds of lights, ballasts and heating, or even power supply circuits are involved. Cycling the power often ages any equipment rapidly.
Is it bad to turn lights on and off?
