Most new spark plugs are packed with plastic or paper sleeves to protect the air gap during shipping. When a sleeve protector is present, the air gap is usually correct. The potential for inadvertently creating a misfire is very real when installing new spark plugs.
Can changing spark plugs stop misfire?
If your engine is misfiring, you may be able to fix the problem easily by replacing your spark plugs. Dirty spark plugs can cause misfires as partially burned engine oil can prevent the plugs from creating the sparks needed to ignite the fuel after it goes into the cylinder.
Why is my coil pack misfiring?
Usually, if a coil pack is bad, there will be a loss of fire or spark in one or more cylinders. This causes what’s commonly referred to as misfiring. Misfiring can cause drag on the crankshaft, and usually results in a very poor performing engine.
What happens if spark plugs are installed incorrectly?
Consequences of Incorrect Spark Plug Gap If the spark plug gap is incorrectly set, it can lead to engine issues. The customer may experience loss of power, misfires, spark plug fouling, increased plug wear, or poor gas mileage.
Can a bad ignition coil damage a spark plug?

Can a bad coil pack make your car shake?
When an ignition coil fails, it’ll cause a misfire, or failure to ignite the air-fuel mixture. This failure to ignite “kills” the cylinder; the “dead” cylinder causes an interruption in power production in the engine, causing it to shake and jerk.
