Why is the camber angle provided?
The main purpose of camber is to prevent the top of the wheels from tilting inwards too much which is because of the load or play in the suspension ball-joints & wheel bearing.
Where is the camber located?
Camber is the inward or outward tilt of the front tires as viewed from the front of the vehicle.
How do you find camber angle?
Divide the horizontal measurement by the vertical one with a calculator then take the inverse tangent (usually denoted by “Tan” with a small “-1,” or by “Arctan” or “Atan”). Make sure the calculator is in degree mode and not radian mode. The result is the camber angle.
What is camber angle defined as?
Camber angle, γ, is defined as the angle measured in the front elevation between the wheel plane and the vertical. Camber angle is measured in degrees and taken as positive if the top of the wheel leans outwards relative to the vehicle body as shown in Figure 4.27.
What is camber and caster angle?
Caster is the angle between the verticle line and kingpin centre line in the plane of the wheel when the viewed from the side is called the caster angle. Camber is the angle between the centre line of the tyre and vertical line viewed from the front of the vehicle is known as the camber angle.
How is camber measured in steel?
Camber is measured by placing a straight edge along the concave side of the sheet and measuring the maximum distance from the straight edge to the edge of the sheet (Figure 1).
What can cause camber problems?
If the vehicle pulls in one direction when driving then that is an indication that the camber or caster angle is not within specifications. It can also be an indication of a tire problem. A tire that is under-inflated, that is the wrong size, or has an internal belt separation can cause a pull.
What causes positive camber?
Camber should generally be within 1/2 degree side-to-side. Otherwise, the vehicle will lean toward the side with the most positive camber. Camber misalignment can be caused by a sagging spring, a bent strut, bent spindle, worn control arm bushing, worn ball joint, or mislocated strut tower (too far in or out).
What is camber on a car?
Camber is the tilt of the tire. When you look at the front or rear tires on your car, you may notice that the tire has a tilt in or out, or it may be straight up and down. If the tire sits perfectly vertical, that is known as zero camber.
What does negative camber mean?
Negative camber is the characteristic generally desired in performance driving. When we use the term, we’re referring to static negative camber. That is, the wheel and tire should exhibit some negative camber while sitting.
