Ribbons are not authorized on formal dress, dinner dress, or working uniforms. Wear up to three ribbons in a single row. When more than three ribbons are authorized, wear them in horizontal rows of three each.

What is a military ribbon rack?
A medal ribbon, service ribbon, or ribbon bar is a small ribbon, mounted on a small metal bar equipped with an attaching device, which is generally issued for wear in place of a medal when it is not appropriate to wear the actual medal.
Do you have to wear all military ribbons?
While in the military, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen are required to wear their medals, ribbons and badges. Our military veterans and active duty service members are authorized to wear them after they transition to civilian life.
There is no regulation that requires that a soldier wear all their ribbons on their uniform.
Can you wear ribbons and medals at the same time?
The use of large medals and badges is reserved for daytime attire, but ensure not to wear large medals and ribbons at the same time. The exception is the wear of unit ribbons on the right side on the Army uniform. When wearing civilian attire, ensure you comply with the same rules as if you were in uniform.
The only ribbons or medals that a recruit can get while in boot camp is the National Defense Service Medal and the Pistol Marksmanship Medal.

Can veterans wear their ribbons?
On significant holidays, veterans and retirees are encouraged to wear their awards and medals. The choice of either full-size medal or miniature is an individual one. Retirees and veterans can wear all categories of medals on appropriate civilian clothing.
A person who is discharged honorably or under honorable conditions from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Space Force may wear his uniform while going from the place of discharge to his home, within three months after his discharge.
